tool review of harbor freight 12 ton hydraulic shop press
Author: your home workshop
Mine had enough bolts to put it together but I plan on welding it. The leg support is nearly non existent and bolted together it’s jumpy. I’m in the north (southern transplant) and all tyje rusty parts like to pop when they first let loose and if you aren’t bolted down it comes off the floor. I bent the c channel and had my even started to grunt the jack. So my plan is heavier feet with better supports than some box strapping thick 3 inch supports. I’m you g to straighten the bed and box it in so larger items don’t need the plates. And I’m welding the frame. Down the road I’m planning air over bottle jack in the future. Pumping it fast by hand that thing sways and bounces. It got me by but it’s not sufficient for any real job. Main reason I got ity was the size more than anything so ‘ve I can barely fit a small to midsize car in my shop with my larger tools and tore equipment so rea l estate is prime so I haven’t bolted to the floor yet.
I have a similar press, but mine seems to have a few extra bolts and supports. I didn’t have to weld it. But you’re right. For the price you can’t go wrong even if you have to do a little modifying. Sure makes bearing jobs a lot easier. Thanks for sharing.
Great to see you back Travis. Hope all is well.
