The Star New Century S-4000 would have to be one of the worst spray guns I have ever used and I highly recommend nobody ever buys one. It uses a lot of paint and has a very small fan height, I was able to get a reasonable finish in the end but it highlights why you should buy a better spray gun than this, Thankfully it was not too expensive $150 delivered. Be sure to see my other reviews to help you decide which Spray Gun is right for you but I assure you its not this one.

I just bought this gun, the air hose should be 5/16 or 3/8 inch?
This hole will be visible after 10 days
looks like the fan is about 2 inch’s tall .. nice job pulling that roof off…m/
You bought the wrong STAR gun Gunman. This is a very old model. The new forged series is just like the mini gun you like. The gold is like the Iwata, the blue like the SATA RP and the Green like the SATA HVLP. Here in America these are sold under the ASTRO Pneumatic brand. These new guns are forged. This gun also needs much higher air pressure than the newer models. These should be run at 40 psig with the trigger pulled. The new models run at 29 psig with the trigger pulled.
hy gun man where i can get or buy this star s-4000 spray gun you have any website to go in buy or something thanks i want to hear from you jose from atlanta georgia
thanks for the review, it is extremely useful to get the professionals opinion, cheers
Nice video. You mentioned that you are working on a website. Check out the program Adobe Dreamveawer it’s really easy to learn. And for the learning there are world class videos on lynda.com you can basically learn it in a weekend. Just a tip. (same like your videos, they are world class too)
Lmao at the comment, cheers for the heads up. Bought a FLG 4 a couple weeks ago thanks to your review (was tossing up between a pro lite but it wont see heavy use) painted my wifes soarer over the weekend base coat, pearl (Used base coat binder this time), clear couldn’t be happier for a $300 gun 😀
you get what you pay for 🙂
Gunman, that gun is a disappointment. I’m glad you was able to save the job. It turned out looking good. Thanks for the review.
Knowing what spray guns not to purchase is time and $ saved. Thanks Gunman !
Wow… That is a small fan. Hard to believe it went through a lot of material with a 1.2 tip. But then again, each gun with a same size tip can go through different amounts of material as well. Good review
This looks very similar to Eastwood Concours Lt and Sprayit SP-33000. Is it possible that yours is a low cfm as well that’s made to be used by amateurs with a small air compressor?
S-4000 is in HP (high pressure) technology. S-4000 is designed for industry purposes. You have to use much higher pressure to work with this spray gun (around 3-3,5 bar). HP spray guns requires bigger distance to panel, Mostly around 30 centimetres. I think you should try to use this spray gun like that. HP spray guns have very low transfer efficiency, around 30%-40% (HVLP are mostly around 65%). HP spray guns are pretty good for industry, because they can work with thin and thick paints. This gun will also work with “wet to wet” primers. So it might be considered as multi purpose spray gun. But all in all, this gun wasn’t designed for use with base and clear coats.
I think it will be well worth to compare S-4000 with Evo-T and SLV spray guns from Star brand.
I’m very happy that you have chance to make your channel even bigger.
You do great work with your every one video.
Thanks for that!
Have you reviewed the Devilbiss flg-5 gun yet?
It looks like a total ripoff of a W400, just not nearly as good
You can’t be a good critic if you never give a product bad reviews. Good job
that gun is terrible .
Gunman what needle and nozzle did you use. Here in USA it comes with either a 1.4 or 1.8 tip. Somebody below claimed that this was a 1.2. That’s way too small.
GM, It would be good to do a video on safety on which face masks to use with replaceable filters im a bit confused with which mask would be safe to spray these 2K products i havent sprayed for over 20 years and sprayed some very high end acrylic resto jobs in the 80s but scared to start spraying again with these 2k paints maybe you could help us make good choice on buying a good mask. Thanks again mate you are a champ Gunman.
SO HOW BIG SHOULD THE FAN BE TO WORK ?? IM DOING OK WITH MY GUNS I HAVE . THE BEST GUN I HAVE IS A IWATA HTE3, THEN I HAVE MY DEVILBISS STARTING LINE WHICH I CAN GET CHEAPER HERE THAN EBAY IT IS THE PRIMER GUN AND FINISH KIT, AND I HAVE A MAC TOOLS GUN WHICH THEY WONT TELL ME THE MANUFACTURER LOL IT DOES OK. IM THINKING WHAT I THINK IS A BIG FAN MIGHT NOT BE BIG ENOUGH. AS YOU CALL IT. I CANT AFFORD ANOTHER GUN RIGHT NOW. AND THE SKG 600 OR FLG5 ISNT HERE YET, I CAN GET A TEKNA PRO LITE FOR 450.00 WITH ALL THE FIXINGS THATS WHAT IM SHOOTING FOR ANYWAY. GREAT JOB
What do you do for water and air in your air line???
Olá amigo passa o valor da pistola de pintura da devilbiss pro lite pra nós valeu abraço
do you have an Iwata lph400 for sale
I look how you spray the roof and my decision is – this gun is cheap .Slow to spray . I think ,when you finished painting roof ,your hand was realy tired.
Thanks again g man I was looking at getting one of those.ended up just getting the devilbliss Gti pro lite.
Thanks gunman for the heads up on this one I’m looking for a desent gun for the first timer I was thinking the the sata 5000.
I really enjoy watching your videos, I have two guns both Devilbiss, one is the Plus aka GFG670 and a older gfg517, the 517 has a smaller fan and gives me a fit it puts a lot of paint down on a small fan makes me run, I havn’t use’d the Plus yet.I would love to see you use a Plus sometime and give me tips on how to use it properly. Thanks for all your help, you are very helpful for us novices.
i like how you give a fair review even if its not a brand name gun
Hi Gunman,
Definitely looks painful to use. Smacking finish though. The reality TV thing is one I’d actually watch and strive to get on. If you’d like to test drive a gun, I HIGHLY recommend giving the “ANi – F1 Plus Series HPS” a try. 1.3 tip and I use it extensively for basecoats. Nice full fan, even coverage, nice feel, and the least overspray/ waste. A link: http://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/ani-f1-plus-series-hps-paint-spray-gun/A-p8438061e I swear by it. Likely around $206 AUD. Just a friendly suggestion Mate.
