RIDGID GEN5X Cordless Belt Sander Review

You may not think a belt sander is a tool that would benefit from going cordless. You’d be wrong. We felt the new RIDGID Gen5X Cordless Belt Sander was more than up to the task for aggressive punch list and short term use. With a real-world run-time of more than 13.5 minutes (with a 5.0 Ah battery), we feel this tool is ready for the mainstream Pro.

Aside from adequate run-time, you get a tool-free belt change, automatic belt centering/tracking, adjustable handle, and a brushless motor. For $149 at The Home Depot, this is a hard tool to pass up.

Kip Keppler says:

Seems like an awful lot of cash to spend to get 13 minutes of sanding in. Also as stated in another comment I would need to have other tools cordless more so than a belt sander.

Ryan Dye says:

How about a Ridgid vs Ryobi cordless belt sander race?

Shaun says:

what would be good is if there wass a battery that had the ability to actually be an inverter where you can run a cord to constant power. That way you can just buy all the good gear without the worry about runtime and all the versatility.

Brian B says:

I would question the need for a belt sander to be cordless more than a lot of other tools. I love my corded ridged belt sander enough that I don’t think I would sacrifice it for a cordless option.

Peter DeFazio says:

I am getting some serious static when attached to a dust extractor. Does anyone else experience this?
