Serious Water Pressure – We are always looking at a new and improved version of a tool. Sometimes it is a new battery power tool with more power or an upgrade for more user protection. In this video and article we take a look at a DEWALT 4200 PSI 4.0 GPM Direct Drive Pressure Washer that has been on the market for some time. This pressure washer has been built with quality products and it is meant to last.
We want to note that DEWALT makes this version with a direct drive pump or a belt driven pump. As you get up in PSI, belt driven pumps are more popular because the belt does not transfer the vibrations from the engine to the pump, allowing for longer pump life. Direct drive units, like the one in our video, are more popular with consumers due to then being less expensive and more compact.
The DEWALT 4200 PSI 4.0 GPM Direct Drive Pressure Washer is one of the most powerful models available at The Home Depot. DEWALT used a AAA triplex pump made by Comet on this unit and it allows for the user to adjust the pressure by turning a knob on the pump. We estimate the output to be from 2,800 PSI to 4,200 PSI. Along with that adjustment, the Honda GX390 engine has a working RPM range of 2,000 RPM to 3,600 RMP, allowing you to decrease the engine RPM to reduce pressure also.
These adjustments are awesome and allow this very powerful unit to be used in many different cleaning applications. If you are new to pressure washers, we recommend that you start slow and ramp up the pressure over time to save any destruction. With the 0 degree tip, one can write their name permanently in concrete at full power.

DEWALT Quality
When a company like DEWALT has their name on a product, they want it to be quality! Honda has a proven reputation for some of the best commercial engines on the market and the GX390 is an awesome engine with almost 12HP and 19 ft. lbs of torque. While there is no oil filter, it does allow for 1.16 quarts of oil and it is easily changed.
The AAA Triplex pump has ceramic coated pistons and a thermal relief valve to allow for water flow when the pump is not in use and the engine remains running. The oil level can be quickly checked through the sight glass on the rear of the pump. The oil should be changed with a 15W-40 oil every 200 hours.

That looks great! Thanks for the review
I am very curious about the DEWALT electric pressure washer… any plans to get your hands on that one?
That’s a good pressure washer
What is that tracked dump thing?
Will it remove paint and rust from patio furniture?
Good engine, good pump, my only complaint with models like this are the ergonomics. The handles are far too low. You have to move them like you are the hunchback of Notre Dame or take the chance at it hitting your ankles.
My old pressure washer blew a hole in the sidewall of an old junk tire. Yeah, these things pack some serious power.
If you guys want serious power washers, don’t buy one of these or any other “common” tool brand made pressure washers. Get an Alkota, some of the best pressure washers out there.
can you show how to clean dirty v6 or v8 engine with your dewalt 4200 psi model dxpw4240
That is a beast. #workshopaddict
Seems like a nice pressure washer, right now I have an electric one which suits my needs #workshopaddict
Can hot or warm water be used in this machine?
A lot of good information Brian. Thanks #WORKSHOPADDICT
I want one of these for cleaning my car. #WorkshopAddict
I got a question which one is the new version and what’s the old version ?
Really? At the time of this comment it said 33 comments. I should be 34 but the satanic person that posted this love that number. Just a little way for him or her to pay homage to the fallen trash and their goat god.
was there any mortar blow out when removing paint from brick? #workshopaddict

Good stuff, man. Your reviews are always informative. #workshopaddict
Any chance you guys could put together an electric pressure washer shootout compared to gas? Something like what you did with the battery powered lawnmowers? I haven’t seen any good videos on YouTube about it and you guys could crush it. #Workshopaddict
No cat pump, it’s a p.o.s., when that pump fails which it will, you should have thrown down a couple hundred more.
This looks like a good sturdy pressure washer #workshopaddict
Great video and review! I’ve never owned my own pressure washer, is this one overkill for the average homeowner? If so, can you recommend a more appropriate model? Thanks.
I can use a surface cleaner of 20′ thank you!!
Love small Honda Engines, always good quality. #workshopaddict
