DeWalt 40V Battery Powered Lawnmower Review

We got to review the DeWalt 40V battery-powered lawnmower. This is a non-self-propelled 40-volt mower that comes with a DeWalt 40V 6.0 Ah battery pack.

It uses a single 40-volt battery which is the only thing different from the DeWalt 2x20V lawnmower. Since the 2x20V uses both batteries simultaneously, the motor and current draw are identical.

Runtime is the issue here. A full charge of the DeWalt 6.0Ah 40V battery gives you roughly 20 minutes. In that timeframe, we were able to mow 5,400 square feet or about 1/8 acre. Since the average lot size in the USA is 1/4 acre that might work. When you back out the footprint of the house, driveway, and landscaping, 1/8 acre makes up the remaining yard.

The DeWalt DCMW290H1 40V mower pushes very easily and maneuvers without any difficulty. It also stows upright on the back wheels, giving it a small footprint. One downside is that it has only 3 LED indicators on the battery, making it difficult to know exactly where you stand when mowing.

We’d like to do further testing and see how well it performs with the DeWalt 7.5Ah 40V battery. That might give it the run-time needed to cover yards that are slightly larger in size.

Is that a pro lawn mower supposed to only run 20 minutes?

Travis k says:

Yeah, Home Depot and Lowe’s have them on sale for $150 right now. That’s about all they’re worth.

You guys talk too much and joke too much, if you are going to review, get to it. Stop wasting our time.

Paula Nix says:

My local Lowe’s reduced the mower 50%. I like it alot. My yard is about 6000 sf. Very easy to use for me, 50 y.o. woman. Also folds up for storing.

Rob L. says:

A readout in 5% increments would be great as an industry standard.
Our phones can display capacity levels in 1% increments.
The industry needs to get with it.
